Adopting from Seattle Beagle Rescue

Thank you for choosing to adopt a homeless beagle.

If you do not live in the Seattle area or are not able to come to Seattle to adopt a beagle, please use this map to find the beagle rescue closest to you. We do not ship dogs.

We all know beagles are cute, just the right size and have quite the personality, which is why we follow a process to determine what might be the best fit for the beagle and the best fit for your family.  Just call us your very own beagle matchmaker!

Every family is different and every beagle is different.  Some beagles are escape artists while others are quite content just staying at home.  Some beagles can be very talkative and others might have just a few words.

ALL beagles love food, and as scent hounds, they are determined to get to whatever it is you are trying to hide.  That is why we have volunteers who do home visits.

Following our adoption procedures will help us get to know you, and you to know the beagles.  Let’s get started!

Research

Beagles come in many shapes and sizes, personalities and temperaments! Do you want a hiking buddy?  Or perhaps just a companion?  Maybe some of both…

Maybe you don’t want an escape artist or a beagle that raids the garbage can.  Perhaps you want a dog that will listen to you.

Do your research (http://www.beaglerescue.org/info/overview.html)…a beagle is not for everyone.

Apply

Complete our on-line adoption application:  Click here

Filling out an application or going through the screening process does not obligate you to adopt from Seattle Beagle Rescue nor does it guarantee that Seattle Beagle Rescue will be able to adopt a beagle to you.  If at any time you want to stop the process, please let your Adoption Counselor know.

Time Frame

The entire adoption process can take up to two or three weeks, maybe more if we don’t have the right match for you.  Please remember that all Seattle Beagle Rescue's volunteers have other jobs and families that require their attention ....so please be patient with us. Seattle Beagle Rescue has been very successful with this adoption process, and look forward to helping you find the right beagle for your family!

References

If we approve your application, you will be assigned an Adoption Counselor. Your Adoption Counselor will contact your reference and your veterinarian (as appropriate) to ensure pets were well taken care of. Please contact your veterinarian and give the staff permission to release your pet’s information to Seattle Beagle Rescue.

If you have a landlord, they will be called to make sure that pets are allowed in your home.

After this information is verified your Adoption Counselor will contact you to discuss your application.
Telephone Interview

You will receive a call from a volunteer Adoption Counselor to discuss your application and the type of dog you’re looking for.  Working with you, our Adoption Counselors can help identify a good fit for your family and your living arrangements.

Meet and Greet

Your Adoption Counselor will find out more about the beagles that are in our care and research which beagle(s) could be a match for you and your family.  The foster family will contact you to discuss their foster beagle and your situation.  If you both think there is a match, you and your family (4 legged and 2 legged) will meet the foster beagle on at a mutually agreeable date and time at the foster beagle’s home.

It is important for everybody in the family to meet the dog to find out if it is a good match for everyone.  In some cases, the dogs don't get along, in other cases, someone might be allergic or maybe it is not a personality match.

Home Visit

If we approve your application and have found a match for your family, one of our volunteers will call to schedule a home visit.  Please have everyone in your family home during this visit.  During this visit we look for areas that may be a safety hazard for a new beagle, inside and outside of your home.   We will suggest areas of needed repair, if any.  This is also an opportunity for you to ask questions about the breed and our process.  Upon completion of the home visit, a report will be given to the Adoption Counselor you were assigned stating whether or not your home is suitable for a beagle.

After the Meet and Greet

Spend a day or two to think about if you are ready for this commitment and if this is the right match for you at this time.

During this time our foster family will take the time to make sure you are a good match for the beagle too.

No…This beagle is not a good match.  Now what?

We will continue looking for the right match.  We may find one today or we may find one in a few weeks.  It's ok to be patient for the right buddy to come into your family.  We just want to make the right match for everyone involved.

OR

YES!  This beagle is for me!

Great!  If the foster family agrees, your home passes inspection, and your references are fantastic, we can move forward with the adoption.

Adoption Fees

Seattle Beagle Rescue is a volunteer organization and all donations and adoption fees contribute to the vet and foster expenses of our beagles in need and allows us to keep saving these orphans.

Adoption Day

Wow!  This is a long process, but well worth the time and effort we all put in to make sure this is a forever match. At a mutually agreeable time and date, you will get to meet your dog again and if you’re sure you want to proceed, the adoption paperwork will be completed right there on the spot.  Adoption fees are collected and the dog is handed over to you.  Congratulations on your new addition!

Post Adoption

Within a week of your adoption, someone from our team will check in with you to make sure the transition is going well.  Sometimes there are questions and we are always here for you….ALWAYS!
