Meet Sherlock!
Sherlock is a 13-year-old beagle who is looking for a new home due to a family divorce. He spent the first two years of his life as a research beagle in a lab before being adopted. Now, Sherlock is seeking a calm, loving home where he can enjoy his golden years in peace.
Sherlock has a history of pancreatitis, but it is well-managed with a special diet and low-fat treats. He’s a good eater and enjoys meal times, though he can sometimes be tempted by tasty items in the yard if left unsupervised.
Sherlock is a very sweet and gentle dog who enjoys a quiet life. He thrives on routine and is happiest as a couch potato. He loves spending time inside, either lounging in his favorite chair or on the sofa. Sherlock doesn’t play much and is probably best suited as a companion to another older, calm dog or perhaps even a cat. He’s not fond of car rides or being outside for long periods of time. However, he does enjoy greeting strangers on the occasional walk (sometimes not a fan of going on walks), and as a beagle, he can pull a little on the leash, though he’s generally a laid-back companion.
Sherlock is housetrained but, as expected for a dog of his age, he has the occasional accident. He knows basic commands like sit, come, down, off, and stay. He’s also very good about grooming procedures, including baths, nail trims, and ear cleanings. He’s not crate trained and does not dig in the yard or destroy household items. Sherlock doesn’t bark much and is generally a very quiet dog. He is not protective of food or toys. He is friendly but can be selective about the dogs he interacts with.
Sherlock would do best in a home with older children who are gentle and respectful of his space. He’s not a fan of younger children (under 6) who may grab, crawl, or otherwise annoy an older dog. He has a fear of loud noises, likely from his past experiences. His ideal home would be a quiet, loving environment with a stable routine and maybe another calm dog or cat. Sherlock is looking for a home where he can be cherished, understood, and allowed to live out his golden years in peace.
If you think Sherlock could be the perfect companion for your home, he would love to meet you and begin the next chapter of his life with you.
