I'm ready for my new family!

Meet Lana, a sweet and resilient 10-year-old, 31.8lb Beagle who is looking for a second chance at life, and maybe a walking buddy to trim down a bit. Lana was brought to a vet clinic by her owner with the intent of euthanizing her because of a minor incident involving food and fingers. The situation occurred when a very young  child, who was carrying food, got too close to Lana, and Lana took the food, making contact with the child’s fingers. It is all food behavior not uncommon with beagles...they want to eat what you are eating!

Fortunately, the vet refused to perform the euthanasia on this happy, loving dog. Now safe in rescue, Lana is getting the medical care she needs, including treatment for her Grade IV dental disease, which will likely involve extractions. While she is spayed and heartworm negative, she is long overdue for vaccines and has some orthopedic arthritis. Despite her past experiences, Lana is a calm, tolerant dog. She has had her tail and ears pulled by the owner's young daughter and even been tripped over—yet she remained completely non-reactive.

Lana’s owner gave the vet permission to find a rescue or adopter who can offer Lana the loving home she truly deserves.  The owner mentioned that it’s only food-related situations that cause Lana to have issues, but unfortunately, she felt unable to manage that. Lana is a kind-hearted Beagle who simply needs someone who understands her breed tendencies. She’s now in rescue and will be receiving the necessary care to feel better before making her way to Seattle, where she hopes to find a home that will appreciate her gentle spirit and offer her the love and stability she’s been missing.

We’re not sure how Lana is with cats, but she would likely do well with children over 10 who understand and respect a Beagle's unique personality and behaviors.
