Meet Bode 🐾

Bode’s story begins on the streets of Missouri, where he was found as a stray in heartbreaking condition — just 18.4 pounds, emaciated, with his hip bones protruding and painful open wounds on both hips. Based on the pressure sores and his skeletal state, it’s suspected that Bode may have been confined to a tiny kennel for long periods, possibly forced to sit in his own waste.

And yet… Bode’s spirit? Completely unbroken.

At an estimated 2 years old, this taller-than-average Beagle is nothing short of a love sponge. He literally wants attention from everyone he meets. His tail wags, his eyes light up, and he leans into every pet like he’s been waiting his whole life for it.

Thanks to a healthy meal plan and the devoted care of his wonderful foster in St. Louis, Bode weighed in at 26.8 pounds on 3/3 — still slightly underweight, but well on his way to a full, healthy body. Just a couple more pounds and he’ll be right where he should be. Watching him fill out has been incredible, but watching him learn that he’s safe? Even better.

Bode has tested negative for:

• Lyme disease

• Heartworm

• Ehrlichia

• Intestinal parasites

He recently received an allergy shot to help with skin itching, and we’re hopeful that as his nutrition stabilizes, his skin will continue to improve naturally. He’ll be monitored to ensure he stays comfortable and itch-free.

Because of his past, Bode is still fed separately. There’s no aggression whatsoever — he’s as gentle as they come — but he tends to inhale his food if he thinks it might disappear. The good news? He’s already improving as he learns that meals are consistent and reliable now. A slow feeder bowl is recommended to help him continue building healthy habits.

Bode enjoys the company of other dogs and has done well with them. He also seems completely unfazed by the vet clinic cat he met! That said, safe and proper introductions are always recommended to ensure everyone feels comfortable and secure.

Bode’s resilience is nothing short of inspiring. Despite whatever he endured, he is unbelievably sweet, trusting, and eager to love. He doesn’t carry his past with bitterness — just hope.

Now all he needs is a forever family who will continue showing him what kindness feels like every single day.
