Meet Jerry (aka JJ) 🐶

JJ is a sweet, stocky little beagle boy looking for a patient home where he can blossom at his own pace. He is estimated to be about 3 years old, but the breeder who had him mentioned about 1 yr for one of the dogs coming into rescue. So we don't really know his actual age. At  about 25.4 pounds, JJ came to rescue as a breeder release, so the big wide world—and especially people—are still a little new to him. He tested negative for heartworm before traveling and is up to date on vaccines, neutered and microchipped.

Now living in a foster home in the Seattle area with three other dogs, JJ is continuing to learn what it means to be part of a home. Because of his past, he’s very much like a puppy in many ways—curious, playful, and still figuring everything out.

JJ is naturally a bit reserved initially but opens up fairly quickly, especially if you lay on the floor with him to play with toys. With time, patience, and kindness, JJ shows that he truly wants to connect—he just needs to feel safe first. 💛

He absolutely loves other dogs and gains a lot of confidence from them. He’ll need a home with another friendly, confident dog who can play with him and help show him the ropes—he has plenty of energy and thrives with canine companionship.

Like a puppy, JJ is still learning what’s okay to chew, so he’ll need supervision to keep him from sampling things like remotes, shoes, or clothes left on the floor. He loves being outside, and that’s often where you’ll find all the dog toys he proudly carries around. He especially enjoys softer toys like crinkle toys, while squeaky toys are still a bit too scary.

JJ is also adjusting to everyday household sights and sounds. Things like ceiling fans, espresso machines, and even reflections in glass or on the ceiling can be confusing or scary for him right now. He’ll need a patient home that can help him gently work through these new experiences.

He’s doing well with housetraining and is learning quickly, but continued consistency will be important. He walks better using a harness rather than just a collar and is an active car rider who is gradually learning to settle during trips.

At night, JJ enjoys sleeping on the bed or in a cozy dog bed nearby. If he needs to be confined, a secure kennel is best—he’s surprisingly athletic and can climb over a 3-foot x-pen to explore the house!

Because he has a strong prey drive, JJ will need a home without cats or small animals. His foster home has no cats or kids, and that type of environment will likely suit him best. He can also be a bit enthusiastic about toys—especially if another dog has one he wants—so supervision is recommended if other dogs have resource guarding tendencies because JJ is happy to sneak in and take the toy. He is not aggressive, but thinks all toys belong to him and he wants whatever toy another dogs has.

JJ is not a big beagle and is easy to pick up if needed. Right now, since so many things are still new and a bit scary, he should be considered a flight risk if he ever gets loose.

Despite his timid nature, JJ is incredibly endearing—with his soft ears, soulful puppy-dog eyes, and growing love for his humans. He truly wants to be close to his people and will flourish in a calm, patient, and understanding home.

If you’re someone who believes the best relationships are built slowly, with trust and compassion, JJ might just be your perfect match. 💛

Please note: Our rescue is foster-based and cannot hold dogs for future adoption due to travel, home renovations, or schedule changes. Adopters must be prepared to welcome their new companion within a reasonable timeframe.

We do our best to ensure every dog is as healthy and prepared as possible, but we ask adopters to understand that rescue dogs may need time to decompress and adjust. They are not perfect — they are simply in need of patience, understanding, and a second chance.
