We strive to make the best rescue match, taking into consideration the beagle’s background and personality, as well as your family’s needs. Just like people, every beagle is different: personality, temperament, energy, comfort with kids and other animals, medical needs and more. We consider all these factors when making a furever-home match. We are very careful about the placements we make because we want furever matches where the beagle and the family are happy. We do our best to match the right beagle with the right adoptive home, because we want this to be the beagle's permanent home.
Adopting from our rescue requires that you complete ALL of the steps in our adoption process outlined below. After you are approved to adopt a dog it will be your responsibility to arrange for transport of adopted dog.
Seattle Beagle Rescue has two avenues for adoption of our rescue beagles, depending on the current location and status of the beagle you are interested in adopting. Some beagles may be on a medical hold or waiting to travel to Seattle.
An Adoption Counselor from the Seattle Beagle Rescue Adoptions Team will review your application and contact you to discuss your application to determine your best possible match for a new beagle family member. You will be contacted within a two to five day period. Please note we are all volunteers and try to make contact quickly, but life does happen, so please be patient.
Once an initial best-fit beagle is found for you home, you will have a conversation with the beagle's foster. This conversation goes into further detail about the foster beagle and your home, life style and activity level. It gives both you and the foster the opportunity to determine if this is the right fitting beagle for your home and recommend moving forward with the adoption process or looking for a better-fitting beagle for your home.
Your Adoption Counselor will verify your veterinarian as listed on your application to ensure that any current pets are up-to-date on vaccinations and spayed/neutered (we will not place one of our dogs in a home where there is another intact animal). If you do not have a pet, please research local veterinarians.
Your Adoption Counselor will also contact the provided personal references. [Personal references should not be related to you in any manner, such as spouse/partner, son/daughter, aunt/uncle, etc., and/or they should not be a member of the same household, such as roommates.]
Once the initial conversations and reference checks are complete, the next step of the approval process is a home visit, both inside and outside. A volunteer comes to your home to determine if it is safe environment for a beagle. Seattle Beagle Rescue will attempt to find a volunteer to conduct the home visit. This could take a few days to a week. Please be patient with us. We are all volunteers. Once a volunteer is found, the home visit appointment will be scheduled by you and the volunteer. Please note that Covid precautions may still be in place.
The final step of the approval process is a meet and greet which will be scheduled between you and the foster. This meeting allows for all people in your household and any dogs living at your home to go meet the beagle. It is a chance to experience a bit of the beagle's personality, energy level and temperament. This is also a good time to see general dog interaction between the foster beagle and any resident dogs, in case personalities are not well suited to each other. This meeting also gives both you and the foster more information to again recommend moving forward with adoption or looking for a better-fitting beagle for your home.
Once all steps have been completed and approved, you are ready to adopt one of our rescue beagles. You will review the contract and talk with your Adoption Counselor about any questions. You will then complete the contract and pay the adoption fee. Next is the best part...scheduling a time to take your new furry family member home!
