I'm ready for my new family!

Hi! My Name Is Bentley

I'm Available

Meet Bentley (“Benny”) 🐾

Bentley is an almost–one-year-old Beagle who is still very much a puppy at heart—full of love, enthusiasm, and energy to spare. He has incredibly soft fur, a solid, muscular build, and a whole lot of affection to give. He is extremely large for a Beagle his age, currently about 35–40 lbs, and based on his paws and ears, he’ll likely reach around 45 lbs once fully grown.

Personality & Energy
Bentley has boundless energy and curiosity. Outside of his crate, he’s almost always on the move—playing with toys, exploring, or trying to get someone (or another dog) to chase him. He rarely settles on his own yet and still needs constant supervision during free time. He loves to cuddle while chewing, though he sometimes mistakes blankets, socks, or feet for chew toys. He’s still learning that people and pets are not for teething.

Training
Bentley is extremely food-motivated, which has made training very successful so far. In just a couple of weeks, he has learned:

  • Sit

  • Stay

  • Down

  • Come

  • Heel

  • Leave it

  • Off

He will need a family committed to daily reinforcement and continued training to help him become his best self. He’s smart, eager, and very capable—but still very distractible.

Crate & Potty Training
Bentley is well crate-trained and will settle quietly at night and during the day, especially if a radio or music is playing to help with anxiety. Potty training is still a work in progress outside the crate. He’s currently using the “triangle method” (crate → outside → supervised free time), and has made progress but still hits a wall at about 45 minutes of free time before accidents. Consistency and patience will be key.

Chewing & Puppy Behaviors
His adult teeth are almost fully in, but he’s still teething heavily. He must have plenty of appropriate chew toys available to keep him from chewing furniture, clothing, or people. He also needs continued work on:

  • Jumping up

  • Running head-first into people and objects

  • Learning impulse control

Bentley is loving—but clumsy—and doesn’t always look where he’s going. His hard head is both figurative and literal.

Other Pets & Kids

  • Dogs: Bentley would thrive in a home with another medium to large dog that has enough energy to keep up with him. He loves chase and tug and plays enthusiastically. Smaller or lower-energy dogs may become overwhelmed.

  • Cats: Not recommended. Bentley has a strong prey drive and has shown intense interest in cats.

  • Children: Not recommended for homes with young children due to his size, energy level, jumping, and teething behaviors.

Safety Notes
Bentley has a serious door-dashing habit. He is fast, strong, and difficult to hold onto if he decides to run. Training is in progress using structured door desensitization, but progress has been slow. A secure home, fenced yard, and vigilant handling are essential.

The Right Home
Bentley has the makings of an amazingly loving, loyal, and incredible dog. He needs:

  • An active home

  • Consistent training

  • Clear boundaries

  • Plenty of exercise and mental stimulation

  • Possibly another energetic dog companion

If you’re experienced, patient, and ready for a big Beagle with a big heart and even bigger energy—Bentley just might be your perfect match. ❤️
