Meet Bentley!

Bentley is a 5–6-year-old, 21-pound male who was found as a stray in Kentucky. With the shelter out of space and no available fosters, Bentley was placed in boarding while waiting for his chance at a better life. He had gone without proper care for some time and is currently being treated for demodex mange (which is not contagious), hookworm, and whipworm. He has been neutered and vaccinated before making his way to the Pacific Northwest.
Bentley is a sweet boy who gets along wonderfully with other dogs and is friendly with people. He can be a nervous little guy in unfamiliar or overwhelming situations, and when scared, he may cower, try to flee, or do both. He’s especially uneasy around children and tends to freeze when they’re nearby. He isn’t aggressive, just frightened and unsure. With patience, gentle encouragement, and plenty of tasty treats, he may become more comfortable over time. A quieter, adult-only home would also be a wonderful fit for him, or kids at least 15 & older.
On walks, Bentley is doing pretty well! He may pull a bit when exploring trails or spotting a squirrel, but he’s a little guy and responds to gentle redirection. He does great meeting other dogs, though passing strangers and loud cars can make him nervous. Busy streets are particularly intimidating for him, so he’ll appreciate a patient person who can help him build confidence at his own pace.
Having another dog in the home would be a HUGE plus for Bentley! He takes a great deal of comfort and confidence from canine companionship. When his foster leaves without the resident dog, Bentley may bark for a little while but eventually settles. However, when both his foster and the resident dog leave, he has a much harder time calming himself. A friendly, confident canine companion could make a world of difference as he continues to adjust and feel safe.
Bentley’s fosters are also working on crate training, and he’s making good progress! They feed him in his kennel to help him associate it with positive experiences. For now, he isn’t crated when his foster goes to work, and he has done well with the freedom he’s given—no inappropriate chewing or getting into things he shouldn’t.
Bentley has already been through a lot, but he’s showing that with a little patience, kindness, and the reassurance of a furry friend, he can continue to blossom. He’s looking for a loving home that understands he may need some time to feel secure and confident. In return, you’ll get a sweet little companion who is ready to start enjoying the safe, happy life he deserves.
Could you be the one to help Bentley feel at home?
