I'm ready for my new family!

Delilah is a charming, sweet, and spirited little dog.  With many mixes, the traits of one breed often dominate.  For Delilah, it is the Jack Russell terrier.  She has boundless energy, loves to chase and be chased by other dogs, and has the sharp, high-pitched bark of the terrier.  Apartment life is not for her!  Beagle traits are there as well -   extremely affectionate, follows her nose and food motivated. 

She does well on a leash unless there are distractions.  She becomes extremely excited and animated whenever she sees other dogs, people, cyclists, etc.  High-pitched barking and energetic lunging are her way of showing interest.  This is not aggressive behavior, just uncontrolled exuberance. It is important that her new family continue to work on her leash training and socialization.

Delilah loves squeaky toys and will go through them.  She also likes bones - beef, nyla-bones, and bamboo.  As long as she has appropriate things to chew, the house will be safe!  As a typical JRT, she has GOT to be kept entertained, or she’ll get into trouble.

She is housebroken (with only a couple small accidents early on) and she uses the pet door like a pro.  She knows some commands like sit and come if treats are involved.  She is a fast eater – a puzzle bowl will be good to help slow her down.  She willingly sleeps in a crate at night, but needs to be persuaded to go in.

Delilah would be best as an only dog with someone home most of the time.  A family who has had experience with JRTs or other terriers will be best suited to handle her exuberance and assertiveness.  She is not your typical beagle!  An adopter must have a calm and assertive energy.  This will help her learn and grow into the devoted and entertaining companion that she is meant to be.  She has not yet been tested with children, but she would probably do best with older kids (over 10 years old).  A well-fitting harness and a strong fence with no gaps are must-haves, as she has shown that she can be an escape artist. 

With patience and understanding, Delilah will become a beloved member of the family. Her spunkiness will keep you entertained, and her affectionate heart will melt yours.
