Nick has been through so much already at about 2 years old, but it's incredible to hear that he’s beginning to show his true sweet and gentle nature. It’s heartbreaking to know he spent months chained outside, with poor nutrition and neglect, but he’s clearly on the path to recovery now. The fact that he's getting the proper care and attention he needs is already making a difference.
His Ehrlichia is being treated with doxycycline and he’s doing well in other respects. He has noticeable hair loss and it is likely related to the poor nutrition he received (he 23.8lbs), but with time and proper care, he’s starting to improve. The vet’s estimate of 4-6 weeks for hair regrowth gives hope that his coat will soon start looking healthier. His first bath was all black bath water and must have been quite shocking, showing just how much grime he’s been carrying. It’s wonderful to know he’s already starting to show some peach fuzz hair growth! Yahoo Nick!!
Nick’s timid and submissive nature shows that he’s been through a lot of stress, but it’s heartwarming that he’s now realizing he’s in a safe place. His gentle demeanor, his sweet reaction to attention, and his calmness with the other dogs and even the office cat suggest he has a lot of love to give. His gentle way of accepting treats and seeking out affection are signs of a dog starting to trust again. Unfortunately we do not know how he will react to kids, especially young kids, who can be a bit noisy. The sudden movements will definitely scare him, so he would be better with older kids over 12.
As we learn more about Nick we will update his post. He still has a ways to go, but with continued love and care, he will undoubtedly become a loving companion who appreciates the kindness he’s now receiving. His story is one of resilience and transformation, and it sounds like he’s going to make someone very happy once he’s ready for his forever home. Are you that someone??
